Tree Surgery

Tree work can be undertaken for many reasons. Before commencing or quoting for any tree work we undertake a site visit to better understand what is best for the tree and your objectives. We will then make appropriate recommendations. We offer a range of arboricultural services working to BS 3998:2010 standards including;

  • Crown reductions

A crown reduction involves reducing the height and/or spread of a tree by a set amount. A crown reduction can increase light to an area or make a large tree more suitable for its situation. Crown reductions are also used as a retain a tree with root or crown issues.

  • Crown lifting

Crown lifting involves lifting the canopy of a tree by a set amount usually to allow for greater access beneath the tree, improved views or to allow for underplanting.

  • Deadwood removal

Removal of deadwood within a tree is important for the safety of people and structures in the area that could be damaged by falling deadwood. In some cases the removal of deadwood can support the health of the tree however, it can have a great value to wildlife and can often be made safe and some retained where possible.

  • Formative pruning

This involves pruning young trees and is crucially important. Formative pruning can let a tree grow into maturity in a healthier condition preventing certain defects from developing.

  • Pollarding

Pollarding is a pruning technique deployed to many street trees and trees that are grown in confined spaces or near overhead services. It can also be used as a pruning technique for some species like Paulownia to create attractive large leaves.

  • Tree removal

We will always do the best to retain a tree where possible. However, for a variety of reasons, often safety, trees will need to be removed. Depending on the space available and nature of the tree we can either fell trees from the ground or climb and dismantle, lowering sections where necessary to avoid any damage to the surrounding area.

  • Stump grinding

Stump grinding involves mechanically removing the stumps left over from tree removal. This removes a potential host for decay pathogens and enables the area to be reused for new planting, turfing or landscaping.

  • Site clearance

Clearance of vegetation from sites prior to development or landscaping is done quickly and efficiently, recycling as much of the arisings as possible.
